Saki is a 12-year-old Shih Tzu whom is very loved by her family. Sadly, she developed a life threatening medical condition called pyometra. Pyometra is an infection of the uterus that can occur in unspayed females. The uterus fills with puss and the pet becomes seriously ill.
When Saki was presented to the veterinarian she was in critical condition. Her owners wanted to do everything to save her, however the high cost of treatment was too much for them. It looked like they would have to make the painful decision to put her to sleep. That’s when Healing Haven stepped in.
Saki’s family paid as much as they could afford and Healing Haven paid for the rest so that Saki would receive the treatment she needed and deserved. She was immediately put on IV fluids, IV antibiotics and pain medications. Once she was as stable as possible she went directly to surgery where I performed the surgery to remove her infected uterus.
Because of her age, Saki’s recovery was a bit more difficult than usual, but she made it! She is now back at home playing with the children that love and adore her. Saki had a serious illness that was treatable and the decision to end her life too early did not have to be made. She is a perfect example of why Dr. Loudon founded Healing Haven and why we do what we do.
